Description
Pianist Matt Ray has performed more than 2000 professional engagements in venues throughout America and around the world. He has fourteen years of professional experience under his belt, has played in ten foreign countries, and performed in nearly half the states in America. Matt's talents have been requested by dignitaries and heads of state all over the world, including right here at home where he has played for President Bill Clinton, Vice-President Al Gore, and Secretary of State Madeline Albright.
Matt currently lives in New York, where he is one of the city's most in demand pianists. He currently fronts his own piano trio, which has toured the Caribbean and Central America for the U.S. State Department as part of the 1999-2000 Kennedy Center's Jazz Ambassadors program. In addition, in 1999 he traveled to his birthplace, Washington D.C., where he was honored as a semi-finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition. In 2003 he performed in Japan at the NY Bar at the top of the Park Hyatt Hotel In Tokyo, the very same venue featured in the movie "Lost In Translation."
In addition to his piano artistry, Matt is also in demand as a vocalist, composer, arranger, and teacher. His diverse skills come from years of diligent music study, and tireless dedication to his craft. To back up his professional experience, Matt holds a Bachelors of Music degree from the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
With a musical approach that can range from elegant to dynamic, Matt Ray is a master at adapting to all situations.
