Description
Few current musical statements posses the relentless integrity and uncompromising musicianship of NewYork City's Miscellaneous Flux. Fusing science, mysticism, and sound (jazz, hip-hop, punk, rock, funk, classical music, and blues), Flux creates its own music. Originally founded circa 1999 in Washington, D.C., all forces involved have immersed themselves deeply in the worlds of their respected disciplines and continue to delve into new dimensions of their art forms. Flux sound is often described as being "esoteric," but the actual experience offered is auspiciously all-inclusive with powerful implications to all having this human experience. "An evolving experience in sonic consciousness," is how guitarist/composer Ben Tyree describes his subjective view of Flux sound. The creative
team behind the sound also includes lyricist/ poet Rashad Dobbins who has the ability to speak directly of the human condition, offering a humanistic view of the world.
Miscellaneous Flux's latest release, Dead In Dreams has been praised since its release. "...daring and frequently invigorating" says David Morris of Pop Matters magazine. The band was also nominated for 5 (five) Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIES) in 2003 and received the award for Best Hip Hop/ Rap Duo/ Group.
"The musicianship of this group is enough to grab you
...An amazing pool of talent with a diverse bag of
tricks..."
-Independent Musician Magazine
(July/August 2003)
"...Miscellaneous Flux have achieved a remarkable mu-
sical balance, one rarely seen in any style of music."
-Hip Hop Infinity.Com
"...jams in a way that is free and soulful."
-Kira Yustak, Ugly Planet
(Fall 2004, Issue #2)
The concept of Miscellaneous Flux is not only an innovative musical phenomenon, but an ideal which is constantly evolving while being manifested by core members, Ben Tyree and Rashad Dobbins. The majority of the time, the group performs orchestrated compositions including guitar, voice, electric
piano, bass, and drums. At times, Flux can be found performing in other configurations sometimes improvising spontaneous sonic architectures as if they had been previously thought out. A definite sound intuitive of the future, Miscellaneous Flux WILL catch your attention, keep it, and proceed to blow your mind...
