Description
In the winter of 1998, the band Velocity was no more than a gleam in the eye of group founder and lead vocalist David Victor. Having just completed the recording sessions for the CD that was to become 'Impact', David was presented with a dilema. "There was really no band at that point, but everybody I played the mixes for said 'Wow, what a great-sounding band!'", says Victor. "After hearing more than a few people say that, I decided to put a band together to complete the mental picture." The result of those efforts was the formation of the band Velocity, a dynamic live act that would go on to play numerous shows throughout the western U.S. in 1998 and 1999. With their new release, Velocity means to build on the success of 'Impact' which sold over 12,000 units worldwide and garnered impressive commercial rock radio airplay in the U.S. and Canada.
Produced by David Victor, Velocity's new EP 'Activator' possesses the vitality and searing energy of modern hard rock combined with memorable songwriting and a classic rock vocalist unafraid to use his pipes. "We're all fans of the big guitars and drums and great production, but a lot of today's modern rock leaves us a little flat", admits the group's drummer, Bob Gaut. "Sometimes it seems like there's very little difference from one group to the next. One of the reasons I wanted to be in this band is that I think we have something unique to offer."
The first single from 'Activator' is the powerful and haunting "Stay" which showcases Velocity at their finest: a brutal sonic assault infused with a searing vocal melody that's memorable from the first listen. An advance copy of "Stay" made its way to KATT (Oklahoma City, OK) and the response from listeners was overwhelming. "Stay" was voted #1 seven weeks in a row by KATT Friday Night Specialty Show listeners (as reported in Radio & Records magazine, August 18th 2000 through September 29th 2000 issues). 'Activator' also features the followup single "Beautiful and Useless", a pulsating rock track with a wry lyric, as well as three more solid cuts that ripple with a myriad of muscular sonic textures.
Adds Victor, "I'm really proud of the new songs and I think the time is right for us to make a statement like this. This music represents real growth for the band from the first record, and we are excited to see what the future holds when this one comes out."
---- "The sledgehammer rhythms and searing vocals on this new disc not only update Velocity's sound but put them in line for stardom." - Long Paul, Program Director, KNAC.COM
