Description
While many teenage girls are just beginning to decide what they want to do when they grow up, Georgia's Amber Brooke is already well on her way to a successful musical career. Amber's album, with the tongue in cheek title Don't Label Me, was released just after her sixteenth birthday on Naughty Lizard Records. Don't Label Me features the single "Slacker". A punky, poppy ode to the charms of so-called bad boys, "Slacker" is bound to bring smiles of recognition to the faces of girls who have crushes on them and guys who fit the description.
While not all of Amber's songs are as lighthearted as "Slacker", they all are as honest and engaging. "So Small", a portrait of a breakup that is also featured on Don't Label Me, was a Runner Up in the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, a first place winner in the NCSA Songwriting Competition, a first place winner in the Mova Arts Festival, and a finalist in the Pontiac Vibe Sound Off Contest. Amber is also a 2003 AOL Tonos Musician of the Week, a 2002 Just Plain Folks Horizon Award Winner, a two time MakeAStar Champion and a Rock Solid Pressure Grand Champion. Recognition of Amber's talent is not limited to the continental United States; "Slacker" is getting commercial radio airplay in Hawaii, and she received an Honorable Mention in the 2002 International Songwriting Competition.
In addition to her songwriting accolades, Amber has numerous film and television credits, which will serve her well as she films a video for "Slacker" this summer.
Don't Label Me features the Amber Brooke Band: Amber Brooke on vocals and guitar; Nathan Breazeale on drums and percussion; Wes Creedle on guitar; Brian Duffy on bass and guitar; and Daniel Platzman on guitar, violin and vocals. For more information Amber and her music, visit www.amberbrooke.com.
