Description
Ellen Keyt is an ecclectic singer/songwriter with wide-ranging musical interests and inspirations. She performs all original work. Her style is best described as grrrl-powered urban folk: rock/blues with lyrical sophistication, folk with an edge. Ellen has three independent CD's out, and is working on a fourth.
Brief highlights:
- 2002 - Winner of Open Mic Competition, National Women's Music Festival (NWMF)
2003 - NWMF Featured Performer - Spotlight Artist Stage.
Currently, Ellen performs solo, or with Jen Bagwell (cello, djembe, banjo) and Deb Abbate-Fedon (drums).
"Throw It Down" is an all-original solo CD that features several acoustic styles (in other words, songs do NOT all sound the same! - you can truly listen to the whole CD all the way through). Songs explore culture, relationships, and the experience of just being human and trying to make sense of it all. Ellen Keyt sings and plays acoustic guitar and other instruments. Other instrumental artists and one back-up vocalist are featured in some songs. Ellen composed all lyrics and most of the music for this CD. Natasha Nasiadko composed the guitar parts for "Fire," "World in Common," and "The Sunrise."
CD Highlights:
"Hardware Store" (track 4) - a humorous look at one's girlfriend's obsession with ... hardware, of course
"Detroit Meadows" (track 3) - a metaphor for the indestructive nature of life
"Arthur Anderson" (track 8) - dedicated to the memory of Ellen's grandfather, a 1st generation American Norwegian
"World in Common" (track 11) - let's just all share the planet!
Listen to the sample tracks and hear for yourself - this 15 track CD is a worth your attention!
