Description
I was born and raised most of my early life in West Texas. I traveled all over through my early years. A true Vagabond moving from Texas to Wyoming and everywhere in between. I picked up a friend's guitar in 1982 at the age of twenty one. The second I picked that guitar up I was hooked. I kicked around in Montana, Utah, Colorado and Nevada before settling in Bartlesville, OK. At the time there were a lot of musicians hanging around this little town. It was a great environment to learn in. We would all get together at friends' houses and jam until the sun came up. Players coming from all around on any given night with all kinds of instruments and talent. Some of the musicians from Bartlesville are: Becky Hobbs award winning singer/songwriter performer, Bill Ware drummer for BeauSoleil, Dave Ennis keyboards for Restless Heart, Dickie Gagle drummer for Mell McDaniel and Randy Crouch, David Abeyta guitar for Reckless Kelly.
I moved to Tulsa, OK in1990 and then to Dallas in that same year. I lived in the Dallas area for several years playing anywhere and everywhere. At the same time I had been starting to tour in the Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, area. I left Dallas with absolutely nothing (not that I had anything before just adding dramatic effect) and moved to Austin TX in 1992. I knew this was it. Texas is where I am from. I was home. Things began to go well and I was touring and playing all of the time. I put out the Forrest Jourdan Band recording in 1994. The band was great and the cd/performances garnered some nice reviews. We were working all of the time. The band toured to New York City in a Dodge Dynasty (ouch) and played all around the south in several incarnations of band vans. It was a typical band scenario. Too much work and not enough money. In the late 90's I scaled back and began playing shows with just me and my guitar. Opening shows for James McMurtry, Monty Montgomery, Joe Ely, Marcia Ball, Stephen Bruton, and many other fine musicians at some wonderful venues and festivals. Friends would set in from time to time. This was the start of the most creative writing time in my life. After I slowed everything down I could feel the energy changing. I spent a couple of years working and trying to get a handle on what I was searching for. I'm not sure I found the answere. But now I have a nice studio (Back House Studios) and material to produce. I have a good catalogue of songs to pull from and a good bunch of friends and musicians to hang with. So jump on board and ride with us. Who knows what the final chapters of this Forrest Jourdan adventure will be. But you can bet on one thing. There will be songs.
