Description
Rusk is a Chicago based rock quartet that continues to prove itself among the ranks of the new face of the Chicago music scene. Twisting guitar heavy power-pop with soulful grassroots melodies, Rusk has cultivated a deep-pocket sound that rings true. Since the release of their 7-song studio debut in the spring of 2000, Rusk has been featured on WXRT's "Local Anesthetic" with Richard Milne, and WBEZ, National Public Radio's program "Eight Forty-Eight." "No gimmicks here" says the Illinois Entertainer of the self-titled C.D. "...nothing if not radio friendly." also noting that, " Each song resonates with noteworthy professionalism." Playing regularly at venues such as The Elbow Room, The Beat Kitchen, and Martyr's, Rusk has steadily built an impressive following as well as a reputation for an explosive, high-energy live performance.
Now, with the release of their latest studio project, Echoes of Uptown, Rusk shows to be hitting on all cylinders. This outstanding 8-song C.D. rages with hard-hitting, high-powered tracks like "She's the Only One," "Nothing is Sacred" and "15 Miles." At the same time, songs like "I Remember," "Lonesome Traveler" and " Break Up the Band" expose Rusk's wide musical range and brilliant musicianship. Echoes of Uptown is a marvelous follow up to their first release and stands as the bands crowning achievement.
Rusk is the brainchild of Thomas Pace and Troy Bervig, the crime-fighting duo responsible for giving us Sheltering Sky. For years, Sheltering Sky championed the Big-Ten college circuit with their workaholic ethic and footstompin' live shows. Now devoting all of their attention to Rusk, Pace and Bervig prove to be at the top of their game. Skillfully backed by Bill Galey and Heath Jansen, at guitar and drums respectively, Rusk's sound is equal parts musicianship and songwriting. "This band reminds me of why I started playing music in the first place." says the gregariously bald-headed Bervig. "It's from the gut both musically and lyrically. You know, say what you mean, mean what you say type of stuff."
