Description
Steven Barkhimer is now playing the Boston singer/songwriter circuit, having written music for over 20 years, from folk to jazz, in New York City and Santa Fe.
"Time Was" is his first release of all-original compositions. Imagine the Bhagavad Gita, the Tao Te Ching, the Gospels, urban angst, bucolic bliss, and suburban seething all put in a blender, and served up with (amazingly) simple honesty, wry wit and deep feeling. Fellow songwriter Rob Siegel has said that the lyrics seem "to be written with surgical precision." The collection also represents an homage to the off-center creations of early Randy Newman, the directness and intimacy of early James Taylor, the playful orchestration of Harry Nilsson, and the pop sensibilities of Shawn Colvin and Dar Williams.
The CD release party was held at the legendary Club Passim in Cambridge, MA. "Time & Tide" was the theme for the Publick Theatre's production of Shakespeare's "Winter's Tale" in Boston and is up for consideration for use in a feature film soon to be released.
