Description
Dedication: the act of dedicating, dedicating it to a person, cause, etc...
Each composition on this cd is dedicated to someone in my life or to a major influential Jazz artist as follows:
Special Subji: This composition is dedicated to Lee Morgan during his second time around with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
For You: This composition is for my wife Laura.
The Gift: ... is for the marvelous Freddie Hubbard.
The Master: My tribute to two compositional giants, Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn.
Sphere: ...is dedicated to Theolonius Sphere Monk.
Svengali: I pay homage to Gil Evans and to one of the great collaborations in music history, Gil Evans and Miles Davis.
If You Know What I Mean: The line for this minor blues is dedicated to Woody Shaw.
Untitled Ballad: ...is in memory of my friend, bassist Ted Young.
Actually: ...is dedicated to McCoy Tyner.
Miles to Go (a suite in four stylistic movements): Dedicated to Miles Davis. Movement one brings to mind the Birth of the Cool. Movement two is based on Miles modal period. The third movement is for the second great quintet (1964 to 1968) and finally, the most controversial period of all, electric Miles. The playing on the fourth movement is dedicated to the "Lost Quintet" (1970). This composition is also dedicated to the greatest joy in my life, my son Miles.
