Description
" . . . Gregory Douglass possesses the voice of an angel - an angel in league with a devil, who conspires to seduce you with beauty."
-Pamela Polston ,"Seven Days"
Many great musicians start out young, but how many of them are ready to release their first album at the age of 16? 22-year-old singer/songwriter, Gregory Douglass,
has just released his fourth CD, "Pseudo-Rotary," and continues to inspire listeners of all ages as he has from the start.
Douglass is a passionate mix of contemporary pop/rock, with influences from artists like Tori Amos, Jeff Buckley and Peter Gabriel. His debut CD, "If I Were A Man," received critical acclaim for its acoustic simplicity and emotionally charged compositions.
His second CD, "Gregory Douglass," was recorded over two years, complete with a full band. A recent collaboration with 20-year-old musician, Jeremy Mendicino, resulted in the creation of his 2 latest albums, "Teeter" and "Pseudo-Rotary." The first three records achieved the top recording of the year for Vermont in an annual "Top 20" by Burlington's own Seven Days.
Douglass was born and raised in rural Vermont, and playing music before he could tie his shoes. Through most of his high school career, Douglass attended Brewster Academy, (a private boarding school in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire), spending his time composing and recording the demo material for what would eventually become his first two records. After lots of talk, Gregory admits he "hasn't a clue as to
where the music comes from," but he does know that the music always comes first. "I know I communicate best with my music and my voice. So, once I figure out the music, I can start the lyrics and work out what it is I'm trying to say."
"I've always been an observer. I'm always watching how people deal with their lives. I think sometimes I just feel what's in their hearts." As for now, Gregory is touring around the North East in support of his new album. According to Gregory "the music keeps coming . . ."
