Description
The rich textures created by the six members of Majors Junction have been described as "Plush Lonesome Western Blues." Attracting a listener base whose musical taste transcends different genres, Majors Junction produces a diverse meld of blues, country and straight ahead rock with folk undertones and hints of bluegrass and reggae. It's a unique sound that jams and welcomes simultaneously, leaving audiences across Chicago uplifted and ready to rock.
The band came together in the fall of 2002 to elaborate on a recording project of lead singer/songwriter/musician Mike Mulcahy and singer/songwriter/musician, Marc Johns. They, along with singer, Heather O'Brien, drummer, Colin Williams, bass guitarist, Jeff Bartlett and keyboardist, Benjamin Nusbaum conjure up a musical phenomenon each and every time they take the stage.
Majors Junction can be regularly seen around Chicago and heard at clubs like Martyrs' and the Boulevard Caf, and also perform at venues like Beat Kitchen, Subterranean and The Note.
Their recently completed debut CD, A Desert Oasis is full of rich melodies and engaging lyrics. With tracks like Seven Miles, Urban Hippy Girl and Through Chicago as illustrators, the disc tells an adventurous story about life, love and thrills along the way. Plus, songs like Brighter Day and Downtown Sin add pulse-raising intensity to the mix.
A recent review dubbed catching a Majors Junction show as being, "A lot like robbing a Louisville bank, then escaping on a Harley through the back hills of Kentucky." It went on to note that "Audiences at both a Beat joint in San Francisco or a Broadway bar in Nashville would tip their hat to Majors Junction's fun-loving vibe - a vibe that could run away straight from Chicago all the way to Folsom Prison."
