Description
Mat Gibson is a rare and prolific singer-songwriter with a talent for sensitive, subtle, quirky and romantic lyrics, sophisticated arrangements and instantly catchy melodies.
Offering a fresh approach to the seasoned songwriter themes of love, loss and desire, Gibson can best be described as a melodic alternative pop/rock act with influences such as Wilco, Rufus Wainwright and The Charlatans to as far back as Elvis Costello, Van Morrison and Bob Dylan.
Mat caught the eye of an aspiring young producer, Jonny Miller, at a gig in Birmingham, England. Mat and Jonny have since co-produced various songs culminating in the EP, 'Waiting For Elvis' which is for sale direct from his website www.matgibson.co.uk or at www.cdbaby.com.
At the end of 2003, Mat completed a small tour of New York City, crowning the tour with a show at the legendary 'Bitter End' on Bleecker Street, the former haunt of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, to name a few.
With family and friends in Boston, New York and London, Mat at 24, is well travelled and has a scattered but loyal base of fans. However, his parents' home towns of Hereford and Cheltenham, England, act as bases from which to work.
Notes:
Mat will be performing an intimate solo acoustic set at the legendary Cheltenham Jazz club, Subtone, on Tuesday, September 14th 2004 as a warm up for his tour of Boston and New York starting on September 20th and will also play the Jazz and Blues Cafe, Cheltenham on Thursday September 16th. Mat will return to the UK to play the 12 Bar Club, Denmark Place, London on October 6th. More dates to be confirmed.
