ROCHELL D. (RO DEEZY) HART is a domestic violence survivor, activist and man-loving radical feminist. An established spoken-word artist, Ro Deezy has performed across the states and she has opened a concert for the Grammy award winning group, The Roots. She's the author of four-published books including A Black Girls Song (Highbridge Press, NY 2001), which was considered for the Oregon Book Award--the highest literary award available in the state. She was the first black woman from Oregon to represent the state at the 10th Annual National Poetry Slam (Chicago, IL 1999). In 2005, Ro Deezy's sophomore album, The Prodigal Daughter, in addition to her fifth book, a collection of biographies on 76 black women, will be released.
An underground superstar and still in her twenties, Rochell D. (Ro Deezy) Hart is already a veteran of her game. An Oregonian Newspaper writer has hailed her as "A female cross between Langston Hughes and 2 PAC" while Spoken Vizions Magazine called Ro "The Queen from the West. "Cris Day of the Willamette Week Newspaper said, "... she stands out as an original and intelligent voice struggling free from a crowd of one-dimensional stereotypes." A noted left-wing activist, socialist and libertarian, Ro Deezy is knee deep in the fight for women's rights and racial justice.
Hart has opened shows for artist that include the grammy-award winning group The Roots and Laura "Piece" Kelly of HBO's (Russell Simmons) Def Poetry Jam. Hart has also performed at a reception for and with Nikki Giovanni and she has shared the stage with artist that range from Sirens Echo, Hungry Mob, Xavier Burton, Darlene Solomon, Libretto and more.
Ro's poetic performances and motivational lectures have become a hot commodity across the country. Ro has had innumerable solicited appearances from organizations that include, NIKE, The Urban League, The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Portland State University, Portland Public School District, Portland Community College, Washington State University, Bennett University (North Carolina), The Spring Valley Domestic Violence Coalition (New York), The National Coalition Against domestic Violence and many more.
