Description
In some parts of Mexico, a fandango is a fiesta where son (Mexico's regional folk music) is played and danced by everyone in town. "Fandango on 18th Street" is a new CD by Chicago's premier Mexican folk music band, Sones de Mxico Ensemble. It is named after the main street that runs through Pilsen, one of Chicago's well-known Mexican neighborhoods.
The CD is an all-acoustic smorgasboard of authentic Mexican music featuring dozens of unique musical instruments, infectious rhythms that anyone can dance to, and a parade of noted muscal guests including Guillermo Velzquez, Grupo Mono Blanco, David Haro, and others.
Sones de Mxico Ensemble is a talented sextet of professional musicians formed by Victor Pichardo (music director), Juan Des (producer), Ren Cardoza, Ral Fernndez, Renato Cern, and Agustn Hermo Contreras. The group was established in 1994 to focus on the music of son (hence the name of the band), and has another CD entitled "Que Florezca (Let It Bloom)" from 1996.
