Growing up, Jason Yudoff picked up the language of music the way the rest of us learn English. A Manhattan-born, self-taught singer, pianist and drummer, his love of performing led to an interest in acting and a college education in theatre. From there, his irrepressible talents in music performance, composing, acting, and the business-end of the industry led to a whirlwind of one success after another in a variety of venues. In short, Jason Yudoff's career has taken the same flowing, improvised turns found in his music...
While completing a BFA in Acting at Montclair State University, Jason obtained an internship with the prestigious talent agency, The Carson Organization, Ltd. - owned by Elizabeth Taylor's daughter, Maria Burton-Carson. Quickly promoted, Jason became the youngest agent in New York City, with over 120 clients, signing and/or representing actors James Van Der Beek, Sharon Leal, and Tara Reid, among others.
Fate intervened and convinced Jason to focus on his own career. He was requested by the producers of "Stomp" for a tour of a new show called "Tap Dogs", and became the first American star in this Australian Rock-N-Roll experience, playing keyboards, percussion and vibes. Jason traveled with "Tapdogs" throughout the United States, Canada and Europe for almost two years, appearing on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" twice, as well as numerous other television appearances. Upon returning from the "Tap Dogs" tour, Jason quickly linked up with a percussion group called "The Rhythmics", playing live industrial shows in monster venues like the Seattle Kingdome, Nashville Arena, and Madison Square Garden, for companies like Microsoft, Taco Bell, Pepsi, Coors, etc. Combining his performance skills and business chops, he was soon writing music for and producing his own funky industrial shows in New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
Always based in New York City, Jason became a sought-after talent in the lucrative voiceover acting market. He has recorded hundreds of local, regional, national and international television and radio commercials and campaigns for name brands (Miller Lite, Lenscrafters, Jeep, ESPN, etc) as well as cutting-edge TV shows, like MTV's "Celebrity Deathmatch" and Saturday Night Live's "TV Funhouse."
Through it all, Jason has kept his musical skills sharp - writing songs, hitting open mic nights while traveling, and picking up sideman and studio work as a vocalist, pianist and percussionist. He was an original member of the four man dueling piano group "Piano Loco", which enjoyed a six month run in Hell's Kitchen, NYC. He released an EP entitled "Late As Usual". He also became the anti-cocktail pianist, providing funky, edgy improvisational keyboard background music for both private and corporate functions and events, including the US Open Jam and the Tribeca Film Festival. Ultimately, Jason realized that what he was missing, what he truly wanted, was to record his own music - his way, with real musicians. No sequencing, and no sampling. Smoke Sex Water, Jason Yudoff's debut album, is the result of this catharsis.
SSW is reminiscent of a time when musicians actually played their instruments and wrote their own songs. Influenced by everyone from Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Lenny Kravitz and Chick Corea to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jamiroquoi, Black Crowes and 70's funk, Jason steps up to the mic with his own unique style: powerful vocals, catchy hooks, tight arrangements, and plenty of playing. With 13 tracks, including two instrumentals and one cover, Smoke Sex Water is just the introduction to the next chapter for a young man who has already accomplished much in the world of music.
