Description
Depending on which story you believe, a couple of years ago Martin Dory either ran his television through with a floor lamp, dumped it into his bathtub, or simply unplugged the thing. Released from its grip, Martin entered into an unparalleled (for Martin) creative period which culminated in The Vanishing Act, 10 songs about love and not love. On the CD, simple song forms make space for Martin's clear voice, fully evolved lyrics, and layers of lush and alluring Americana sounds; accordion, pedal steel, dobro, harmonica, and assorted tremolos. The Vanishing Act is presently being played on over 100 radio stations around the country.
"For [those] who happen to love the tremulous, twinkling sound of wildly veering vibrato crashing up against lazy accordion and acoustic guitar, Dory is the act for you, displaying a Smiths-ish heart on the sprightly Second Man and slicing up some bleak C&W on Holes."
-Kimberly Chun, SF Bay Guardian
"Many thanks for sending us your beautiful, strong release. I've enjoyed listening to your songs and music and I will give your disc regular airplay on our radio show "Roots Revival" because you're damn good."
-Raymond Swennen, Roots Revival
"Listen half-heartedly to this straightforward folk-rock album and the impact may be minimal. Give it full attention, and a surprisingly mature debut is revealed."
-Jason Albino, Performer Mag
