The Thins
Too much congestion is terminal. Nature's antidote is a condition of "the thins." Traffic thins as you leave the city; vitamin E thins the blood; a dense forest thins with age, giving us room to breath, space to grow, range to explore.

Description
Celebrating the release of their debut CD, "Postcard Angels," The Thins are a high-energy, drum-and-bass acoustic power trio featuring AJ Strauss (The Sutras, Jennie Stearns Band) on upright bass, Brian Dudla (Mary Lorson and St. Low, Plastic Nebraska) on drums and Gabriel Tavares (Jennie Stearns Band, Plastic Nebraska) on acoustic guitar. Full-throated vocal harmonies, punchy rhythms and innovative songwriting tinged with shades of the east make this one of the most unique and exciting bands to emerge in 2004.
BIO
In the winter of 2003 Gabriel Tavares ran into multi-instrumentalist, AJ Strauss at the Chapterhouse in Ithaca after years of hearing or seeing nothing from him. Remembering the days of Ithaca's Indie Rock legends The Sutras and firey upright Bass solos at various open jazz nights, he quickly introduced himself and was pleased to learn Strauss was a fan of his guitar work with Plastic Nebraksa. Thrilled by the sudden thought of an acoustic power trio, Tavares immediately ran out to his car to grab a copy of his solo record, "Cipher," scribbled his phone number on a napkin and hoped for the chance to collaborate. Strauss listened, and when the call came that he wanted in, Tavares's long-time bandmate, Brian Dudla was the obvious choice to bring energy and definitive character to the band. A new trio was born which Dudla christened, "The Thins." Using the material on "Cipher" as a ledge to jump from, The Thins quickly defined an entirely new creative vision featuring semitonal upright bass solos, full-throated vocal harmonies, and unconventional rhythms. The core of The Thins' sound is acoustic, but they're not afraid to hit a distortion pedal or pitch shifter or launch into a blistering drum-and-bass onslaught. Expect the unexpected at their live shows, as each night is a walk through a free-associative funhouse hall of mirrors, bending and distorting the mood of spectators into moments of improv.
