Description
Guitarist Carl Burnett strips down to bare essentials in his new CD release, "Life Before MIDI: Naked". This jazz/rock/funk hybrid pulls you deeply into its sweaty and painfully honest embrace. The follow up to Burnett's previous CD "Life Before MIDI," builds on the same premise-that is, "no rehearsal, no MIDI programming, no click track - just 100% live jamming." Carl Burnett's raw guitar playing takes the airbrush out of music. The inspired end result is pure music at its most visceral.
The level and caliber of musicians playing on "Naked" will leave listeners begging for more. Special guests include guitarist Robben Ford, and saxaphonist Branford Marsalis. "Life Before MIDI: Naked" features top-notch players Wyzard, Reggie Hamilton and Tony Tino on Bass. Oscar Seaton, Curt Bisquera, Rocky Bryant and Tony Moore deliver heat on the drums. Deron Johnson's smoky keyboards round out this exquisite gem of a CD.
Burnett allows each performer to shine, and yet his presence is palpable. His heartbeat holds the music together, and radiates as a through-line for this largely improvisational journey. "Naked" spirals us into the soul of music - an exhilarating alchemy of inspired performers, playing from the very depths of their being.
