Description
The Origins of Foxy Moon Baby....
... my childhood friend, Tom Campbell (a.k.a. TyeDye), and I stayed in touch throughout our college years, and then for a couple years lost touch. We ran into each other just when I started to put my recording studio together. He showed a great deal of interest and had some gear, so together we combined our stuff and created a little studio. Still, we needed to find someone who was a good player, but most importantly, someone who could compose and arrange.
TyeDye had a friend from college whom he had worked with for over two years as a sound engineer in NY. One early spring weekend, we invited Dennis Roberts up to my studio/apartment over my parent's garage in Ringoes, and he showed me two songs, "Caballos" and "Repercussions". We started with an acoustic guitar and click track, then added drums and other instruments. After the first session, we knew something interesting was going to happen. Over the next year we continued recording, adding more layers and songs. What was originally intended to be Dennis Roberts' demo album turned out to be something much larger.
Inspired by the opportunity, Dennis put most of his existing compositions on hiatus and started composing material with new and fresh musical ideals, exploring compound meters and bizarre melodic concepts. Once the foundation of the music was laid down in the studio, we called the best players we knew to perform the remaining parts. The album was almost finished when I went to Dennis and TyeDye with this whole marketing theme, the name, slogans, and concept. Like magic, everything came together and ignited the start of Foxy Moon Baby...
... In the early 90's, my long time friend and brother musician, Mike Binck, had an idea to create a commune in the woods. Basically, college kids hanging out. Like many young adult ideas, it never happened. But the name Mike had come up with was cool and I never forgot it, "Foxy Moon Baby". Binck gave his blessing and it began...
That's the story and I'm sticking to it. We hope you like the music.
