Description
"The songs for this CD were mostly written in 2001. I added some of the Indian sounds that I've come to love very much during my studies in Bombay over the last 2 years. My trio with Keith Carlock and Paul Socolow provides the background for our guests.
I first heard the band Shakti 20 years ago in a little concert hall in Munich, Germany. Nobody knew what World Music was back then, but everybody was intrigued by the new sound and the amazing virtuosity of all the players. I met Zakir Hussain in 1996 while on tour in Canada with my band, we sat next to each other on a flight from Montreal to Toronto. He patiently explained the basic rhythm structure of Indian music to me and wrote some examples in my notebook. Recording with Zakir Hussain and John Mclaughlin was a dream come true, I still can't believe it actually happened. I hope you enjoy listening as much as i enjoyed playing with them.
The events of september 11th changed us all and I searched to find something to say. I believe it is our duty as artists to find words, songs and images to help us live through the darkness. "Where is god" and "for peace to come" were both written in the fall of 2001. "
