CMJ Magazine says, "a whole new wardrobe of self-made aural apparel."
And we thank them for that.
We recorded. Again. To stop feels downright impossible sometimes. We had a few false starts before Chris Grainger and Russ Long (Sixpence None the Richer/Wilco) gave us our burpies. Sorted us out.
The idea for this one was to do something better sounding than the last one, and to record recently written songs that we felt better reflected where we were going musically. We actually only intended on releasing it to college radio, then win the lottery and record a full length. So forgive us if the CD booklet seems to suffer from a lack of imagination. It was never really meant to be a visual stunner.
But we are very proud. We feel we reached many of the goals, songwriting wise, that we set for ourselves, from writing songs that we were ok with 'em staying quiet, and reaching deeper than just writing songs about heartache and girls.
I remember it rained and was very humid one day while recording. Sticky humid, dark too. Looking back, it seems to make sense. A little dark. A little oppressive. Haunting. Sticky. But we still have a lot of fun doing it.
