A vibraphone-infused alt-rock record involving barking days, sugarcane, a pigeon's religion, swallowing, Esther Wiliams, and smallish sins. Influenced by Tom Waits, '80's pop, Bjork, and others.

Description
"Her band was tight as a virgin. The keyboardist played bass with his left hand and rhythm/lead with his right, while the drummer snapped and popped like Gene Krupa. That's when Stephanie came belting it out like a gospel/tribal exorcism. She reveled in reverb and delay, leaving ears ringing. She jumped about the stage like Jim Morrison at a ballet class."--Ed Schiffler, The Asheville Disclaimer
The first things you notice about Stephanie's Id are its lack of guitars and the band's charismatic front person, Stephanie, who "jumps about the stage like Jim Morrison at a ballet class" (Ed Schiffler, The Asheville Disclaimer). The band communes with crowds as well as riffing improvisationally, but this is no jam band. The vibraphone nurses a fat (phat?) epic rock tone: Cal Tjader be damned. Intelligent, stream-of-consciousness lyrics are common.
The musicians clocked tons of stage time with other
bands previous to forming Stephanie's Id in 2003.
They have huge and diverse cd collections...
Their influences include Radiohead, Miles Davis, Aerosmith, Bjork, Ben Folds, The Cocteau Twins, early Holly Palmer, Stevie Wonder, and James Brown, among others. The Id currently tours in the Eastern US and released it's debut full-lengtch cd, "Spiral In", in January 2005. The Id, as Freud's "seat of all impulses and desires," is tenacious and plans to travel the world.
STEPHANIE MORGAN, vocals... first performed at age 3 with a broom on the brick landing of her babysitter Virginia's fireplace in Albequerque, NM... was crushed to lose the city spelling bee in Abilene, Texas due to her treatment of the word "yield"...or "yeild" (sixth grade)....has a master's degree in social work from UNC Chapel-Hill....is a Duran Duran fan but didn't like The Power Station... grew up in iowa, colorado, new mexico, and texas, and now lives in asheville, nc....began playing guitar and writing songs after moving to Hendersonville, NC for outdoor work with at-risk teens...doesn't like to be sticky... had a favorite song once: "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head".... thinks it's cool how when you get small enough material objects are really mostly made out of space....played Oscar the Grouch in a second grade play and sang her first solo: "I Love Trash"....once owned homemade plaid bellbottoms that exactly matched her mother's....listened to Anita O'Day mostly when learning how to sing jazz standards...still has idols: bjork, sting, holly palmer, ella fitzgerald, and lots of '80's pop stars....2003...quit day job to pursue music...got some help from a project grant (Asheville Area Arts Council)...was a gymnast...is a really fast typist...does not find spirituality in organized religion but does pass the time looking for god everywhere.
CHUCK LICHTENBERGER, keys/vocals... bangs his head on the ground when he doesn't get his way....he is the son of a self-employed orthopedic salesman and a former secretary with an affinity for puns.... Grew up in Greensboro, NC...he learned to play an entire game of football by himself at age 5....he wears a ball cap and eats organic food....he became a criminal by age 11...no one is allowed near that church bell to this day....at 16, his only dream was to be Dave Mustaine of Megadeth...he still has echoes of that dream today....he has never been a waiter but worked a small stint as a busboy at 22...he and the business parted due to philosophical differences....has a degree in classical piano performance from UNC-Asheville...his favorite album is Miles Smiles....he has a degree in classical piano....he knows all the words to "O.P.P"....his credo is "work hard at not working hard".... currently he has 45 piano students...has played in various bands, various genres including theatrical rock, r&b, and salsa...he can play 7 games of basketball in a row, but thinks being a part-time busboy is exhausting.
KARI RICHMOND, vibes/drums/keys... aka "Hotlips," once modeled as Barbie and has not received one single complaint letter from a mother with armpit hair...has a degree in psychology...spent over half a decade losing her innocence at residential facilities for behaviorally challenged kids (we're not sure when in life this happened, but isn't this a gray area anyway?)...is influenced by Gershwin, Stevie Wonder, U2, and Three Dog Night...insists that matthew's popgun solo (noted below) was actually a duet...fed the propaganda machine for movies like "Drumline"...can cook a serious mess of comfort food and hem your skirt all in one evening...hocked Swiffer, Pantene, and Caress with no mercy to those among us who wish to stay soiled...played with Land of the Sky Community Band, which is actually located in the upper atmosphere, dangerously close to the hole in the ozone layer...had her acting debut as Susan B. Anthony at age 7, (she wore her great aunt's pince nez, clutched a bottle marked XXX and held her nose, proclaiming "pee-yoo!")...that same year, she started playing the piano (coincidence? we think not)...can take a three and a half hour journey, argue with it, and it will change its mind and only take two hours....we don't know what a pince nez is, either.
