Description
The Heed, much like the Big Bang, formed out of a quagmire of cosmic forces and farces sometime in the late 1990's. The major elements that make up their distinctive sound can be hard to pin down: vintage/progressive Rock, stanky Funk, bouncy R&B, bluesy improvisational jams, and homegrown Soul, among other, less identifiable chunks of genres. Pretend Zeppelin was hanging out with Hendrix when The Red Hot Chili Peppers from the mid-90's got into a fight with Stevie Wonder and The Black Crowes, and the whole thing spilled into a porno soundtrack recording session.
Each member contributes something important to the sonorous fabric that is The Heed. Timm's intensely infectious and soulful vocals make up the front line. Timm's voice can go from butter to boiling water effortlessly, and is what makes the songs so urgent and personal. AC's tasty guitar work and songwriting add depth and breadth to the sound. His affinity for uncommon meters, dissonance, hooks and texture make The Heed instantly recongnizable, while keeping a fresh breath in the sound. Tommy's bass expands the low end, using rhythm and harmony to thicken the sound, he stands apart from the majority of modern bassists who merely follow; he blazes his own path to meet in the middle. Fuzzy-D's drumming is remenicent of the Monsters; Bonham, Peart and Van Halen. His kinetic drumming drives the songs like a Mack truck.
The Heed has been playing staple venues in their hometown(s), the Twin Cities for over three years. With the debut of their first full-length CD, Prognosis, they are expanding to tour the Midwest. They hope to be touring nationally withing the year.
