Deja Vu
Mike Shapiro
It's one thing to have the music you made years ago put on a compilation and sold in "cool retro" packaging to the present generation, but it's quite another to make "cool retro" music presently.

Description
Ahoy,
It's hard to blow your own horn but here goes. I grew
up in the 60s playing in one of the top Northern Californian
Bands "William Penn and His Pals". We were just prior to
the psychedelic explosion in the San Francisco Bay Area.
We are now considered, in retrospect, to be one of the top Garage Rock
bands from that era and have a CD on CDBABY as well.
I co-wrote the cult classic "Swami" of which the single
is worth more than $250.00 for a single copy. This
Deja Vu album is a smattering of songs that I wrote in
the Sixties and Seventies. What can I say. I have
a huge backlog of unrecorded songs. I spent a lot on the
production at Fantasy Records in Berkeley on Deja Vu. In fact I am still paying interest on credit cards related to it. I digress though.
That's who I was. Who I am now is a greate songwriter and a fantastic guitarist and producer. I currently play in and around San Francisco and have a professional home recording studio now.
As for Deja Vu. What can I say. It is kind of retro and kind of now. The songs are reminiscent of The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Elvis, Santana and any other sytle I thought
was important to emulate. People who have it
say that it is a CD that they listen to over and over again
because there is so much darn music in it. Give it
a listen and purchase one ...... I need to pay off those
credit cards. Also keep an eye out for my new CD which
will be coming out shortly.
Best wishes,
Mike Shapiro

Jump Jive and Harmonize - Disc Reviews
..."On top of possessing a real swell set of pipes that are equal parts Carl Perkins and Eric Burdon, Mike is a hotshot string-bender whose swinging licks tastefully combine power with precision.
And if that isn't enough to spark your interest, there's also a host of melodic pop sensibilities to be had.
Aural images of the Beatles, the Kinks and even Badfinger often infiltrate the insistently infectious numbers on "Deja Vu." But Mike is arguably his own man, armed with a flair for writing songs that make an immediate impact..."

It's one thing to have the music you made years ago put on a compilation and sold in "cool retro" packaging to the present generation, but it's quite another to make "cool retro" music presently. Mike Shapiro, a songwriter for over 30 years and co-writer of the Garage Cult Classic "Swami", brings The Beatles, Santana, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and Elvis together in a unique, old school, newly cool style. Don't miss the poppy "Come On," the swinging "Home Free," the sweet, '60s-sounding title track, and the Beatlesque "It's Up to You." If you're tired of buying oldies CDs with all the same songs, try something fresh with the sound you already love.
