Description
Nathan Davis is an independant 26-year-old artist based out of Southern Pines, NC. He has released his second album, his first in a studio, called "OUT OF MY SKIN", to rave reviews by local newspapers and music lovers in his home state. His mix of bluesy vocals and folk-rock and pop songcraft, combined with a one man multi-instrumental attack in his live performances, leaves audiences dumbfounded by his signature style, and in tears by his heartfelt sincerity.
Davis has been playing for most of his life, and has fronted many bands, from the punk-hardcore band The End in St. Louis, MO, in the early 90's, to the jazz acoustic trio Alibi on the east coast, and the funk-rock project The Lost Cause, the latter of which blew away the local scene in hometown bars and clubs with their electric blues and funk shows.
"OUT OF MY SKIN", to the delight of Davis' dedicated followers, encompasses ALL of these styles in its own way, leaping from one extreme to the next with convincing ease, and proves to the listener, once again, that true style HAS no boundaries, only empty and oh-so-beautiful sky.
Recorded entirely in a privately owned home-turned-studio, Davis and producer Grant Walker, an 18-year-old production major, set out to see what could be accomplished with minimal tools at their disposal. Davis also put his skills to work, playing mandolin, keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars, vocals, and even some of the drums, employing very few session players to assist in the tracking, leaving a sound that is truly all himself. Walker's "Steve Lillywhite-esque" production style (guster, dave matthews, u2), and ear for subtleties makes for a sonic breath-taker.
Nathan Davis' OUT OF MY SKIN's lyrical quality, beautiful and angry arrangements, and brutal honesty will turn you into an instant fan, an avid follower, and scrambling to one of many captivating performances this young musician is sure to give in the future.
