BIO
At the age of nine, Raymond started playing and performing with the Marauders Drum & Bugle Corps. Although he started out on percussion, he quickly changed to brass instruments. For the next eight years, he performed with many other musical groups. His main instrument was trumpet in jazz band, but he also played the French horn and baritone in concert and honor bands. Upon graduation from high school, he was given the "Marine's National Musical Excellence Award. "
At the age of 18, he joined the ARMY and moved to Europe to complete his four year tour of duty. While serving overseas, he began playing the keyboards and performing with a local rock band...Ambition (November 23rd, 1986) . All the members of this band were active duty military and represented the ARMY in various different "Battle of the Bands" competitions around Europe. As each member completed their military service, the band remained in Europe and gained in popularity throughout both the military and European community. In December of 1990, the band decided to pack things up and move to the East Coast to try and attain a record deal. When the band arrived on the East Coast, the plan was to set up shop and begin rehearsing and looking for an agent. Have you ever heard the expression..."Giving blood for food?" Sometimes the best laid plans, well...you get the picture. After almost a year of touring on the east coast, the band disbanded and everyone went their own ways.
When Raymond got back home, he joined up with his long time friend and songwriter...Eric Montgomery. For the next two years, they both did a stint in each other's bands (Montgomery Park and NEVES)...performing throughout the Pacific Northwest.
During the summer of 1992, Raymond decided to go back to college and get his degree. For the next two years, he focused on music theory, performance and classicism. (He also took vocal and guitar lessons.) While at college, he applied for and won music scholarships for each quarter he attended. Upon graduation, he was awarded the "Outstanding Student Award for Musical Excellence."
After college, he performed in various different musical groups, to include: solo piano, duets with female vocalists, soft-rock bands, hard-rock bands, classic rock bands...and even performed in a country music video.
In the Spring of 1996, Raymond was approached by the member of a local rock band...Bad Flowers. .. subsequently, he joined. In October of 1996, Bad Flowers released their first CD. Performing as an opening act for bands such as Berlin, Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth and April Wine (to name a few), they saw quite a bit of success, but like many bands...were not able to stay together long enough to realize a record deal.
When Bad Flowers dis-banded, the guitarist, Rob Rigoni, and Raymond continued to work together on various different music projects. These projects ranged from performing as a classic rock duet in the casino circuit, to playing keyboards and piano in Rob's world rock band...Budapest West, to writing music for short films, to writing radio jingles to eventually signing a deal with Cliff Lenderman and Century Fitness to compose seven albums of music to be used on the "Lean and Fit" workout DVD's (released in 2004).
In 2002, Raymond released his debut solo CD entitled: "A Doorway Through Your Tears." He debuted it on Pat Cashman's morning radio show in Seattle and showcased it on Q13/Fox's morning television program with Walter Kelley.
He was able to get distribution through Borders Books and Music and set up a tour of their Northwest stores. At the same time, he set up on-line distribution through both CDBaby.com and Amazon.com...as well as various other download sites.
During the summer of 2003, Raymond and Pat Cashman did a half hour special on a Comcast cable show called " This Ain't Kaoroke."
Currently, Raymond is in the process of writing his second album (hopefully due out the Summer of 2005). He is also working with fellow Pacific Northwest musicians and friends Rob Rigoni and Eric and Julianna Montgomery in a cover project called Maurice the Fish.
