Description
Years ago, I was headed east on I-8 in San Diego. I missed the exit I planned on taking to get guitar strings and was hit with the sudden urge to keep on driving. Hours later, when I reached the state line at Yuma, I headed north on 95. I ended up in Havasu City, Arizona just before sunset.
I shared a beer with some college girls from Santa Cruz, danced with an older divorcee from Texas, and drove home the next morning. I didn't know it then but my little adventure planted the seed that grew into a song, then an entire one-man musical play and an album to go with it.
So what is this play and album about? It's the story of a tender-hearted coffee-slinger trying to win back the heart of his old flame in Havasu City, Arizona. I'd tell you more but it would ruin the suprise.
The album features ten original songs from the play with accompaniment by my favorite San Diego musicians: Dennis Caplinger (fiddle, mandolin, and banjo), Steve White (dobro), Shawn Rohlf (guitar, banjo, and harmony vocals), Jim Austin (upright bass), and Brendan Kremer (drums).
