By fusing addictive melodies and raw aggression, The Anthems effectively bridge the gap between punk and rock. The Anthems were born out of an intense desire to jam, nothing more. It was never anyone's intent to start a band, it just sort of happened. As Chris, the lead guitarist puts it, "we just wanted to write and play songs that we would like to hear."
In the summer of 2004, The Anthems attacked full force, touring their native Southern California coast. The rock quartet was met with adoration and enthusiasm by fans who loved the band's distinctively festive atmosphere. Wanting to capture the energy of their shows, the band set out to record.
The Anthems first release, entitled Demo, was recorded live at The Compound recording studio in Long Beach and mastered at Capitol Records in Hollywood. The four tracks on the CD are representative of the band's diversity and consistency. What does the CD sound like? Well, according to The Anthems, it's a sound somewhere between genius and ignorance.
