Description
BANG sugar BANG are a punk rock trio hailing from Los Angeles, CA. Voted one of the top 100 unsigned artists in Southern California by Music Connection magazine (December 2003), they play a breakneck style of classic '77 LA punk rock blended with the music of the early British Invasion. Their live shows are marked by explosive energy and wild stage antics.
Cooper (vocals/bass) and Matt Southwell (vocals/guitars), formed BANG sugar BANG in 2001 while working at a Los Angeles based erotic jello mold company. Soon after Pawley Filth (drums), a college buddy of Matt's who had not been seen since he and Matt were thrown out of a Detroit club for pelting Ted Nugent with beer bottles a year before, joined BANG sugar BANG and their hard and fast style of punk rock was born.
An eleven song debut album, Greatest Hits, was released in the Spring of 2003. The songs are marked by the frenzied passion of punk, the smart style of the British Invasion and a healthy sense of fun. Signature tracks include: Super Cool, The Posh Kids and Let You Down. Greatest Hits has sold several thousand copies in the US, gained European distribution with the Italian record label Nicotine Records and a Japanese import deal with Wizard-In-Vinyl. A much anticipated second album, Thwak! Thwak! Go Crazy!, is set to be released this Fall. It was produced by legendary producer Geza X and BANG sugar BANG's own Matt Southwell. Their music has been played on Indie 103.1, KROQ and KXLU in Los Angeles and featured on several compilations (Wolverine Records' It's Not Just Boys Fun, Cool Grrrls' Cool Grrrls Kick Ass!, etc.). The band and their music appeared in the independent film, The Making of Touche (starring Priscilla Barnes and Adrian Zmed). Their music has appeared on numerous additional independent film and network television soundtracks including: the ABC drama Grey's Anatomy, Fish Without A Bicycle (starring Brian Austin Greene), Blood Dancers and Germ Of a New Insanity. BANG sugar BANG and their music have been the subject of press in print (The Village Voice, Music Connection, Punk Planet) and on the web (Girlpunk.net, GloriousNoise.com, CandyForBadChildren.com). Playing a non-stop schedule of high voltage live shows across the country has enabled BANG sugar BANG to accumulate a formidable fanbase throughout Southern California and beyond. In addition, they are co-creators of the highly successful weekly punk/power pop club, Kiss or Kill. The club is dedicated to fostering Los Angeles' indie music scene.
Already having toured the country many times, the band plans to continue touring the U.S. next year with a European tour to follow. Described as "one of the hardest working and most creative promoters in town" (Music Connection, September 2003), continued success is the only thing BANG sugar BANG is willing to accept.
