Description
Hi thanks for checking us out. We are Dr. Lee and the Sufi Girl, a drum group from Canada who mixes intense rhythms and funky beats with seductive and explosive dancing.
We were in Guinea Conakry West Africa this year where we studied Drum/Dance. I studied Djembe with Djembe Master Aboubacar Fatouabou Camara. Lainie studied with Master Dancer Mabinty Bangoura. It was a wonderful trip the people were so wonderful to us. We stayed with Aboubacar it was really exciting, we got to live like Africans for 2 and half months
We play all sorts of venues from night clubs to festivals, from Art Shows to Corporate Events, from the streets of Ottawa to the streets of Bangkok. Our mission is to bring drumming to main stream culture. We believe in the power of drums, their ability to bring people together from all walks of life, and to encourage funky dance movements on and off the dance floors of this planet.
Our debut cd is entitled Orange Galaxy, it draws from a collective multi cultural pool of sounds, catapulting the listener into, yes, another realm...an Orange Galaxy! African Djembes, and Indian bowls, human beatboxing, and futuristic electronica, Northern Thai melodies, spacey samples, and lucid chants, all come together on one cd, creating a hot yet sweet cutting edge sound.
Oh yeah, be sure to check out the funky art work that's featured on the inside and back cover of this cd, not only is the Sufi girl a musician and dancer, but she's a visual artist as well. Enjoy.
