Description
Jazz standards and a blues song are performed by a unique baritone/tenor voice blending with the exceptional musical sound of the Will Scruggs Jazz Quartet, with brilliant instrumental solos in each song featuring saxophone, guitar, bass and drum arrangements by a distinguished and rapidly rising jazz ensemble.
The styling of the vocals and instrumentals is so versatile that you can get the impression that each song was performed by a different vocalist and different musicians. The depth of the performance makes the CD sound better each time that you play it. Whether your mood is seductive, melancholy, cheerful, sexy, sultry or longing to be uplifted, you will find elements of these and others in this music.
Will Scruggs developed the musical and vocal arrangements especially for this CD. He performs on the saxophone with the legendary skill that enabled him to be voted the best college jazz player in Georgia and Alabama and the first student to graduate from the prestigious Emory University with honors in jazz performance.
Although his voice is different, Elliott Small's style has been influenced by George Gershwin, Billie Holiday, Jerry Butler, Curtis Mayfield, Smokey Robinson, Dionne Warwick, Ella Fitzgerald, Mariah Carey, and even Luciano Pavarotti and others. There is a future CD from Elliott that will feature a brilliant guitar performance of Ave Maria by Sid Woolfolk with Elliott as the vocalist and Elliott's rendition of Girl from Ipanema with Sid in the Will Scruggs Jazz Quartet.
Other abilities have kept Elliott away from music much of the time, until his determined focus in the direction of music in recent years. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Elliott finished high school with a straight A average, he was valedictorian, voted most likely to succeed and, later in life, elected to the Harlan High School Hall of Fame in Chicago.
He graduated from Harvard College with a major in Biochemical Sciences. At General Foods Corporation he worked as a chemist. His work career later included government employment, business ownership, social projects and travel to 30 countries in 5 continents as a computer consultant.
Elliott has been a member of church choirs and he has been a choir soloist. He has performed in Jazz Clubs with the Will Scruggs Jazz Quartet and other groups.
