"Emormously gifted Bay Area pianist and composer Gini Wilson, a.k.a.The Duchess, puts her own spin on the concept 'chamberjazz.'..an eclectic repertoire of solo and quartet tracks that delight...her precise execution sounds nothing short of regal..." All about Jazz.com
The Duchess is well known in the Bay Area as a brilliant and intensely emotional jazz pianist with influences from both worlds of jazz and classical music. She and the group have appeared in many jazz festivals and concerts which are as notable for their light hearted humor as for virtuosity. When not on the road, Gini performs regularly at Moose's, or Jazz at Pearls, the well-known jazz clubs in San Francisco. The Crossing Point CD , for solo piano and jazz quartet , is being heard currently on jazz stations nation-wide to critical acclaim. The CD features music composed and developed by Gini and Steve Heckman, horn virtuoso. This project brings their collaborative energies together to create a genre of original and emotional jazz incorporating influences such as Wayne Shorter, Erik Satie, Bach, world music and Piazzola. Check out the CD Left Coast Local Time, which introduced her compositions in the genre of ChamberJazz . Her group, now called The San Francisco Chamberjazz Quartet, continues to explore improvisational and lyrical frontiers.
