Description
Tiger Saw's, second album, Gimme Danger / Gimme Sweetness, sees the band, fronted by singer/songwriter Dylan Metrano, going in unexpected directions. From the opening heartbeat nursery rhyme R U Courageous? to the rhythmic attack of Love Will Kill, this is an authentic album of seduction, friendship, and remembrance. Equally informed by contemporary literature and the Newburyport, MA band's ever-increasing community of collaborators and friends, this is the sound of a group that has found its voice - a voice passionate, distinct, and evocative.
In the spring of 2003, Tiger Saw toured with Jason Anderson / Wolf Colonel (K Records), and they played as Anderson's band. On Gimme Danger / Gimme Sweetness, Tiger Saw covers the Wolf Colonel classic The Goodbye, and Jason lends his voice, guitar, bass, and piano to several songs on the record. Other guests include Marc Gartman (Pale Horse and Rider / Low collaborator) on lap steel, Jim Reynolds (Milkweed) on banjo, and Colin Rhinesmith (Skating Club) on organ and bass.
Tiger Saw is from Newburyport, Massachusetts, a seaside town 40 miles to the north of Boston. Founding songwriter Dylan Metrano is the one constant in the band, although mainstays Juliet Nelson and JR Gallagher have accompanied him in the studio and in many a live setting since the year 2000. Sometimes Tiger Saw is just Dylan wandering through an audience singing with acoustic guitar in hand, and at other times as many as a dozen performers augment the live experience with cello, viola, piano, organ, drums, horns, and other assorted noisemakers.
Tiger Saw specializes in the whisper, the waltz, and sweet songs that are jazz in concept, but not in execution. Metrano and his ever-growing band of friends and collaborators are impassioned about performing this music for people all over the world, sharing stories, playing campfires, and creating something special night after night.
