Description
Glendale, AZ's Lapse of Irony is a modern female-fronted atmospheric and progressive rock/metal band with many years of musical experience. Combining elements of such diverse and creative acts such as The Gathering, Opeth, Dredg, and Cave In, Lapse of Irony crafts a unique sound that listeners around the world will enjoy. Already gaining a local buzz as being an original and unique act in the state, the group has recently released their epic debut EP "Between Dreams and Dread".
Lapse of Irony consists of Bethany Hodges (vocals), Matt Turkington (drums), Chip Franz (guitar), Angelino Wood (guitar), and Rich Van Leeuwen (bass). In the fall of 2002, long-time friends and guitarists Justin Gersey and Franz decided to form a female-fronted atmospheric rock band. Hodges joined shortly afterward and Lapse of Irony was conceived. Turkington was discovered in the spring of 2003 and the group began to write music as a four-piece. Gersey recorded and produced their debut three-song demo in the fall of 2003. Bob Bryant (ex-Summer Dying) joined shortly after the demo was released and Lapse of Irony was now a fully functioning five-piece. In the winter of 2003-04 the five wrote for the "Between Dreams and Dread" EP. Spring of 2004, the group enlisted with the talents of local producer extraordinaire Cory Spotts (Greeley Estates, Keddah, Goodbye Tomorrow). Six instruments and multiple tracks per instrument were recorded and produced in a stunning 24 hours. Spotts mastered the EP shortly thereafter; the group believes he did an excellent job of capturing the sound and mood of their music. In summer of 2004, Gersey decided to step down as guitarist. Wood (ex-Estun-Bah) was discovered and immediately joined the group and learned the songs incredibly quick. He played his first show in Fall 2004. Bryant stepped down as bassist in winter of 2004-05 and Van Leeuwen (ex-Emperiled Earth) picked up where he left off. Shows are currently being booked for Spring of 2005 to showcase the new lineup and new material.
Clocking in around twenty-seven minutes, "Between Dreams and Dread" consists of five tracks. This monumental EP will take the listener on an auditory journey exploring many different emotions. Each track boasts a different song structure and mood. Most tracks are over four minutes and progressive in nature. The lyrical content is very personal to Hodges and adds to the mystery and aura of the group. Plans are to release the EP to radio and magazines (both online and paper) for review.
