Description
With the release of his debut vocal album The Magic of Hudis James multi-faceted musician and cultural day-tripper Hudis James completes a musical journey that has taken him to worlds both frightening and blissful throughout his storied and rubble-strewn career.
After landing in Portland, OR. in the 80s he gained renown under the name of Jeff Hudis as a relentless, uncompromising drummer and vocalist in the rough-hewn, notorious roots-rock trio The Razorbacks. Through the release of three albums and constant touring both in the US and abroad The Razorbacks gained prominence as one of the regions leading party-rock outfits. As the early 90s dawned so did the demise of the band as the ravages of the rock n roll lifestyle began to take their toll. Leaving Portland for a myriad of places..Los Angeles, Austin and Atlanta among them Hudis James eventually settled in Seattle for the balance of the 90s where he continued to gamble with his uncertain future pursuing the frail dreams of rock stardom and fame during the angst laden so-called grunge era for which Seattle had become the spiritual and geographic center.
Hudis James continued to toil in obscurity with a countless array of bands playing in and around the Seattle area including the rockabilly-tinged trio THE DISRUPTORS which included ex-Screamin Jay Hawkins guitarist Henry Cooper and Fiona Apple bassist Keith Lowe.
After many a long night the legendary Queen Anne hill piano bar SORRY CHARLIES became Hudis James's final resting place and living room where he soon became a regular performer and fixture. It was here that Hudis James transformation from rock drum bum to crooner lounge lizard was initiated and eventually became complete. Since moving back to Portland in the late 90s Hudis James has continued to perform both as a singer and musician with several musical entities. In addition to The Magic of Hudis James Hudis James performs with guitarist Steven James Wright in the psychedelic guitar/drums duo the AYAHUASCA BROTHERS as well as with several other groups including the Aaron Black band and the infamous and unpredictable BILLY KENNEDY AND FRIENDS.
The Magic of Hudis James exists as a musical monument to the spirit and grandeur of the life-long bar flies of SORRY CHARLIES and to anyone who has been fortunate enough to be accepted at a benevolent establishment where they are free to sing their favorite songs and drown their sorrows among friends.
