here's the "official bio"
By blending the sweet sounds of surf, psychedelia, country, metal, funk, soul, jazz, reggae and punk rock; while keeping one foot firmly planted in old school rock n roll, The Insidious Rays are blazing a trail into the future of music.
Hailing from the small, college town of Bethlehem, PA, this 5-piece band comprised of a tight family of musicians has been blending their wide variety of musical tastes in a live format since early 2001. Singer and main songwriter Matty Love gathered the talents of Dave Johnsen (bass), Jon Braun (drums), Mike Davidson (guitar) and Nick Levinos (keys) to bring his vision of a musical hell storm to the world.
The Rays have kept busy by releasing two albums, promoting two east coast tours (from VT to GA), bombarding the New York-Philadelphia region with weekly live performances and contributing unique music to compilations and Internet websites. Additionally, the Rays have recently scored the entire soundtrack to the horror film A Season In Hell, which will be released by Wicked Lamb Productions in early 2005 and Rays' songs will appear in Troll Tour, a film slated to hit the festival circuit next year.
Aside from the Rays success as a group, the members have achieved success in other musical endeavors as well. Dave tours with Project/Object, the definitive Frank Zappa tribute project. In 2003, Jon also joined the Project/Object team. Mike and Matt have been playing together for more than a decade at venues in the US and the UK. The Rays also have served as Chris Harford's backing band, The Band of Changes.
The Insidious Rays deliver an explosive live performance that receives acclaim from audiences of all demographics -- be it hippies, frat boys, punk rockers or suburban housewives. This reputation attracted the attention of producer Andrew Weiss, best known for his longtime work with The Rollins Band and Ween, and more recently with the Grammy-winning effort of Caf Tacuba. Weiss' interest led to the third Rays album, which he recorded, mixed and produced in the summer of 2004.
With a third album ready for release and a constant performance schedule, the Rays have certainly established their presence. But with new doors opening they have no intention of idling now. They will continue to pursue their vision the same way they always have, with honest songs and phenomenal music.
