Description
Eleven Mile Records is proud to present the second album from singer-songwriter Jason Bennett. Call it folk, rock or country, "Self Portrait" is a collage of Dylanesque ear candy sure to spark the soul. Jason recorded half of "Self Portrait" with the country brother duo Wes Cleve and A.J. Clark in Texas. Songs like "The Ballad of Jake Spoon", "Ain't Selling Out" and "Snap My Fingers" are full of mandolins, fiddles, drums and all sorts of implements of destruction. The other half of the album consist of Jason's usual sparse, acoustic arrangements.
Jason Bennett recently received a Nashville song publishing deal for his song "Snap My Fingers", which is the second track on this album. It will be interesting to see who picks the song up.
"IT WOULD BE A PLEASURE TO SEE SOME OF BENNETT'S MATERIAL FROM "SELF PORTRAIT" MAKE IT INTO THE HANDS OF A NASHVILLE STAR. MANY POPULAR COUNTRY TUNES HAVE PREDICTABLE LYRICS AND SUBJECT MATTER, BUT BENNETT HAS BEEN ABLE TO CRAFT SONGS WITH CATCHY BEATS AND DOWN-HOME TWANG WITH LYRICS THAT REACH BEYOND A FIRST-GRADE READING LEVEL" - J. Adrian Stanley, Music Editor, The Colorado Springs Gazette.
The third song on the album is a little story called "The Ballad of Jake Spoon." This song is a story of the life and death of the legendary character from Larry McMurtry's classic western, Lonesome Dove. Lonesome Dove fans are really taking a liking to this one. If you know any Lonesome Dove fans, let 'em know about this song!!!!!
The second song on the album is called "Snap My Fingers" and was co-written with the talented California singer-songwriter, Robert "Rauly" Curran. Jason and Robert go way back and actually wrote their first song together and performed it at the legendary Palomino Club in North Hollywood. Robert sometimes performs on the San Fernando Valley coffeehouse scene.
Jason now lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Shelton, Washington which is just outside of Olympia.
Jason's first album, "The Atascadero Sessions", is also available here at cdbaby and has sold well here in the United States and in many other countries like Germany, Hungary, England, The Netherlands and Canada.
