Description
An Armenian girl born and raised in Kansas.
Couldn't play with the neighbors' kids until she'd practiced the piano.
Picked up her Mom's classical guitar, saved money for a steel-string and packed her bags after college to make music in New York City.
And here she is, four years later, having just released her debut album, "From where you are," in June 2004. It's a ten-song testament to love, perserverance, desire and redemption, produced by Tony Conniff in New York, New York.
Melineh's well-crafted melodies support every honest word she sings, from the quiet hushes to the funky hooks. The album just makes sense as a whole. You're transported from a love song like "As Good As You," with it's chunky guitars, padded organ and tight harmonies, to a vulnerable and pensive tune, "World," with only Melineh's voice and guitar to guide you through her truth.
She rocks. She swings. She makes you laugh with her crazy banter, then focus intently on a solemn song.
Quoted in a GO NYC Magazine August 2004 article, "12 Out Artists on the Rise," Melineh says:
"Rejection's a scary thing, but I'm not going to let my fear of it stop me from expressing myself truthfully through my music."
