Blues in Paradise
Beth Scalet
A fresh-sounding, live-in-the-studio set of traditional & original blues sung in her gritty, bruising style. Some tracks are solo with Beth on guitar & harp, and some have great R&B backup.

BIG NEWS! This CD was out of stock but a small supply of them has been located at another distributor, so it is again available here for you CD Baby folks! It's also at a special new price!
Beth has performed throughout the Midwest for the last 30 years ("I started when I was a baby," she jokes). She's opened concerts for everyone from blues shouter Koko Taylor to pop legend Billy Joel to jazzer Jean-Luc Ponty and guitar legend Richard Thompson. "Blues in Paradise" captures the strength and immediacy of her live concerts.
"Blues in Paradise" was released in 1987 on cassette. This CD is digitally remastered from the original.
Kansas City's weekly entertainment newspaper, Pitch Weekly, recently nominated Beth for a Kansas City-Lawrence Area Music award (KLAMMY) for best folk performer. Here's what they had to say about Beth, and about "Blues in Paradise": "Beth is . . . a local institution. More than ten years after it was released, her 'Blues in Paradise,' an overdub-free bruiser, still sounds fresh. This points to another fact Scalet seems to understand: You have to make your albums walk it like you talk it from the stage. Shows make fans, and discs make believers; Scalet enjoys the support of both." -- Pitch Weekly, April 5, 2001
The no-holds-barred title song, "Blues in Paradise," received an honorable mention in the 1999 Billboard Song Contest.
Her grasp of traditional blues is nowhere more apparent than on her gut-level version of "St. James Infirmary." She brings this same sensibility to her own original blues, like "Lighthouse Blues."
Kansas City is Scalet's home, and her music reflects the sweetness and spice of a serious barbeque sauce. Try it. You'll like it.
