Description
live? EP is a collection of remixed material gathered from live recordings at Manhattan's Tribeca Rock Club, Brooklyn's Tea Lounge and send 's own EMERGENT events.
Send's music has been described as a unique expression of the process of unification. The group draws equal inspiration from DJ culture and IDM, gamelan, funk, 20th century minimalism, and ambient music. The musicians use acoustic instruments, synthesizers, computers, and electronics to recontextualize ideas and roles. Send flows with the changing energies of a set, expressing the latent possibilities of the moment while creating a cohesive whole. The music feeds on the energy of seemingly disparate elements and, like nature, seeks the emergent pattern which brings the underlying form into focus.
Send was born in Brooklyn in Fall 2003 of four long-time friends with an interest in balancing the freedom of collective improvisation with the structure of composition. Since then, the band has been steadily building a loyal fan base in New York City. They have performed individually and collectively at rock venues, coffeehouses, loft parties, and nightclubs including Tonic, Knitting Factory, SOB's, Mercury Lounge, Lion's Den & Tribeca Rock Club. The group is becoming increasingly involved in cross-media projects, and has done installations with improvised computer video art as well as live painting. The members of send are involved in projects with Amir Ziv (Cyro Baptista's Beat the Donkey), Jordan McLean (Antibalas) and Adam Holzman (Miles Davis).
