Eclectic, independent Hip-Hop music for eclectic, independent minds; we got tired of plastic-fantastic fodder and took the sound underground with love, pain, and brains.

THE SKY BENEATH CREW is a dynamic creation with roots in Seattle (WA), Lynn (MA), Berkeley (CA), Gweru (Zimbabwe), and Sydney (Australia). In the summer of 2003, emcees BEAUJANGLES and FURYUS combined their lyrical talents with the phenomenal vocal stylings of PAKWIT and the innovative instrumental soundscapes of STEVEN VAN BEATHAVIN to create debut album "The Ground" in only three weeks. Shortly thereafter, "NorthBest Records" was created to support this groundbreaking release, as well as future projects, and THE SKY BENEATH was off and running.
As fall approached and BEATHAVIN departed for South America, the rest of the group dispersed to continue their educations: BEAUJANGLES to Stanford, PAKWIT to Expression College, and FURYUS to Yale. Back on the East coast, FURYUS teamed up with friends FITZGEEZUS and NUSONRIZE, who were excited by the obvious potential captured in "The Ground," and the three emcees began working on new tracks as the group Fifth Floor, named after the dorm where they met.
Operating out of FURYUS' freshly formed BudgetBooth Productions, "The 5th Floor EP" was tru school hip hop at its finest: jacked beats, fresh rhymes. Turns out the mixtape format was just right for Yale, and hit single "BK2Night" took the campus by storm, garnering attention from media outlets as large as The Boston Globe. Fifth Floor distributed their music to the Yale undergrad population electronically, for free, and went on to win a Battle of the Bands competition at local venue Toad's Place, winning the right to open for Third Eye Blind at Yale's 2004 Spring Fling Concert. As summer approached, Fifth Floor and The Sky Beneath decided to join forces on a brand new project. They brought on a second producer, DJ SHINGI, and the new & improved SKY BENEATH CREW was born.
"The Winter EP" is the first fruit of their combined effort, and as you can hear from the previews, it's pretty damn hot. It's also just a taste of what you can expect from our full-length album due out later this year.
In February of 2005, THE SKY BENEATH CREW signed on Australian DJ/Producer/Graff Artist, DJ NOS! He brings with him a wealth of sonic flava which draws on influences such as DJ Premier and DJ Shadow. He is looking to add yet another dimension to the numerous Sky Beneath Crew projects planned for 2005 and 2006.
