Description
Singer, songwriter, producer Jennifer Terran shines again on Rabbit with a sense of humor and honesty that continues to challenge the norms of pop culture. From her mock glamour album cover & sung thank you list, to her poignant songs & powerful delivery- Terran is no doubt an original!
RABBIT (Terran's 2nd solo CD out of 3 so far), was lovingly produced by Terran and engineered by the fabulous Julie Last, who's engineering credits include JONI MITCHELL's "Turbulent Indigo"; Ricki Lee Jones' "Traffic From Paradise", Sean Colvin, John Lennon and others. It is a totally unique little record that's fun and completely heartfelt.
A little about Jen:
Jennifer Terran is an outstanding musician, vocalist, pianist, songwriter, entrepreneur and too many other things to mention. With her independent record label, Grizelda Records, she has put out three phenomenal solo records since 1997: "CRUEL", "RABBIT" and of course the rich universe of her latest invention, "THE MUSICIAN".
Terran has been blowing away critics and listeners alike for years with music that makes you really think and feel. It's just beautiful, intense, pure, real, inspiring stuff that's a little difficult to explain away by the usual descriptors.
Many people upon hearing Jennifer's music and her unbelievably beautiful voice are reduced to tears, though Jen has a definite sense of humor that can make you laugh you're ass off. (Check out the song, "Trader Joe's" & "Kitty I can't stand it" on her debut, CRUEL or "New Age Credits" on her 2nd CD, RABBIT.)
Anyway, you're going to love this woman's music! Her CDs, are simply in a category of their own. And all we can say is that if you're reading this, be glad! Jennifer's a rare, rare talent. You won't be finding her music to be out of date or sounding stupid in ten years, because the musicianship and songwriting is outstanding and because she's putting to light aspects of life that are essential to who we are. She's a master of beauty and intensity and has an amazing ability to deeply move people in a most intimate soulful way.
WHAT CRITICS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT JENNIFER TERRAN:
(for more reviews or complete articles go to her web site)
LA WEEKLY:
"There's something going on here, something different and real that sticks. Remarkable... equal to that of a young Joni Mitchell."
HEAVEN:
"Voor THE MUSICIAN van Jennifer Terran ruil ik zo vrijwel het volledige repertoire van Tori Amos in"
- Eric van Domburg Scipio
NEW TIMES:
"Gorgeous melodies, mesmerizing voice, thoughtful lyrics... Terran is a potent, innovative, serious artist; her music will drive straight through you."
- Glen Starkey
INDEPENDENT:
"Terran's vocal ability is staggering. Her songs are beautiful."
- Mark Fahey
UNIVERSITY REPORTER:
"Often compared with Tori Amos, in my regard, Terran is a singer/songwriter of a higher caliber."
- Michael De Mayo
BAM MAGAZINE:
"Jennifer Terran is a stand out diva!"
- Carey McDonald
LA WEEKLY:
"You know what's scary about singing? It comes directly out of a person, which implies that it directly represents the person. Hardly anybody has guts enough to do that, so singers are usually "jazz" or "blues" or "rock" or "soul" or something that allows them a little distance. Jennifer Terran sounds as if her singing might be herself. It's not that she bleeds all over the floor, though she's plenty intense. Her songs (self-written and pianized) just seem to come from a specific place with strong melodies that take natural but unexpected turns. They're about love, hate, whatever, it doesn't matter, the only thing that does is that there was a personal reason for them to exist. To deliver them, Terran happens to possess a remarkable soprano, and a level of control over it equal to that of a young Joni Mitchell."
- Greg Burk
LA TIMES:
"A high intensity approach to pop... intense, personal... Grade A"
- Bill Locey
CAMPUS CIRCLE:
"Terran has a unique musical gift. With her words as well as her music, she conveys a mixture of grace and rage... it is this strange juxtapositon of moods that makes Terran's work so powerful... she is a force to be reckoned with."
- Jenni Balsam
KCRW:
"When I first heard this disk, I was captivated by the power of your voice and the songwriting..."
- Chris Douridas / "Morning Becomes Eclectic"
COASTAL REVIEW:
"That's the thing with transcendentalism, it hardly lives up to its name unless it carries you away. Well Jennifer, it did carry some of us away. We just left our bodies back there on the Plaza Theatre chair."
- Gary A. Schlueter
VENICE MAGAZINE:
"a gifted singer"
Venice Magazine
MUSIC CONNECTION:
"If Amos and Cole can be a hit, this certainly can as well."
- Scott Lenz
POSITIVELY STATE STREET:
"Tori Amos and Ani DiFranco combined couldn't take on Terran's integrity."
- Marko 72
