Description
TONIC has been delivering snazzy 4-part vocals on popular jazz favs and smokin' originals since 2003 in the Windy City. Backed by a mix of Chicago's top musicians, this album and this group are turning heads and dazzling audiences and listeners everywhere. It's a mix of swank harmonies and slick solos that belongs among the best popular jazz CDs in any collection.
Enjoy all 13 cuts on this disc (they're just that good) - it's a deliciously fun and fabulous ride that takes the listener through a wide variety of genres and sounds, from swing to Latin to lounge, jump to humor to lush. You'll hear new takes on tunes that made the grade and still ride 75 years on. You'll swear the original cuts were penned by the great masters of Tin Pan Alley themselves. This is no 'cover band' - these cats swing and groove with a modern vocal style while keeping their selections to the era they feel was the greatest in music history: the 1930's, 40s, and 50s.
TONIC is Jennifer Chada (soprano), Karen Multer (alto), Paul Langford (tenor), and Steve Multer (bass). The group shares a combined 70 years of professional vocal performance and several thousand live stage appearances across the country and around the world. Individually they've played on bills with Ella Fitzgerald, The Nylons, Celine Dion, Laurel Masse, Kenny Rogers, Jon Hendricks, Josh Groban, Enrique Iglesias, Karen Mason, Gene Puerling, Patti Austin, and other leaders in the vocal world.
Like modern jazz? Think the Standards are dull? Then stay far away from this disc. But, if you dig the classic sound and Big Band jive you're in for a solid mess Jack! If you enjoy the great harmony groups, the classic Tin Pan Alley composers and lyricists, TONIC is a group you're going to want to keep your eye on. This self-titled disc is their first album release (from Dec. 2004) and will be followed by a Christmas album in fall 2005 and a new full jazz disc in spring of 2006.
