Description
From everyone who's listened to the album and responded, the consensus is FANTASTIC!! The CD is a collection of Ron Velosky's original compositions published under his name.
Ron's selection process for performers on his debut album was to go with long time friends; this is evident in the initial track, "amigo". One can feel the closeness of true amigos in the opening message. It achieves the descriptor of good jazz presentations, tight!
And the purpose of good friends getting together is to have fun, and they make that evident in their handling of "kid stuff." The tightness and gaiety continues in the tracks that follow, adding flair and a touch of seductiveness.
Before bringing it all together and wrapping it up on the last track with his good friends, Steve Girardi, B.D. Lenz and Greg Federico, Ron was prophetic in choosing his creation, "Good Bye" as the next-to-last track. Ron died a few months after the release of this CD.
Ron Velosky was an active member of the East Coast jazz scene for many years. A highly regarded author ("Sight Reading For The Bass"; see www.DenimMusic.com), educator (NYU, et. al.) and performer (In 1991 Ron's versatility caught the ear of Maynard Ferguson who invited him to join his world tour), his talents on both the acoustic and electric bass spanned virtually every musical idiom.
Adios amigo!
