Description
Makeba Mooncycle
She started rhyming in her early teens, battling MC's in high school and dancing at clubs such as the Sound Factory and the Underground. Makeba's first break into the rap game came with her affiliation with X-Clan. She toured with them and became an integral part of the group, helping in organizing the Blackwatch movement and doing back-up vocals for group member Isis. She went on to collaborate with other prominent artists such as Talib Kweli on the single "Lunchroom Classics" from the compilation "Tags of the Time 4.0". She was also featured on MC Lyte's "Ain't No Other" on the posse track "Hard Copy". In 2000, she released an independent ep "The Gibbous" which featured production by J. Rawls, and a vocal collab with J. Sands of the Lone Catalysts. "The Gibbous" is now a hard to find gem!
She was also featured on Wu-Tang affiliates Sunz of Man "Savior's Day" and the classic 50 MC's mixtape by DJ Tony Touch with Sunz of Man "We Can't Be Touched".
After a small hiatus and migrating to the dirty south, Makeba hooked up with Amiri, (ghost)producer of A Tribe Called Quest's reunion single featuring Erykah Badu titled "I C U(Doin It)". This will be released on the forthcoming Violator Compilation on Jive Records. Amiri has also produced tracks for Spectac, who currently is planning an album release with production overseen by 9th Wonder(Little Brother)! Together they have created a reintroduction into the world of music that incorporates hip hop from the past and the present. The project was carefully put together immediately after the two met, and now its time for the people to experience "Earth Power"
