Description
Mary Kaye is a singer/songwriter based in southern Maine, where she lives with her husband and two daughters. She has worked as a professional actress, an elementary classroom teacher, and as a director of several drama camps for children. Mary has performed all over New England at children's museums and festivals.
Mary's first CD, I Sang It Just For You, received the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award, the Dr. Toy "Best Vacation Children's Products" Award, the Children's Music Web Award for "Best Toddler CD" (www.childrensmusicweb.com), and the Film Advisory Board "Award of Excellence." Mary's second CD, Mouse Jamboree, (released in January of 2005) just received the Dr. Toy Smart Play/Smart Toy "Product of Excellence" Award. It is a pick in Parenting Magazine, Booklist, and the School Library Journal.
Mary's music has been played on: WLUW-FM in Chicago, WPRB-FM in Princeton, KIOS-FM in Nebraska, KTOO-FM in Alaska, KUNM-FM in New Mexico, WPKN-FM in Connecticut, WTUL-FM in Louisiana, KFAI (on the web) in Minnesota, KOEZ-FM in Utah, KMUN-FM in Oregon, KZFR-FM in California, WUVT-FM in Virginia, KUFM-FM in Montana, WFDU-FM in New Jersey, WUSM-FM in Mississippi, "Massive Radio" on Live 365.com of Seattle, "KidMix Radio" (on the web) of Massachusetts, WMPG-FM in Maine, XM Satellite Radio of Washington D.C., and in the UK on Abracadabra Radio in London.
Kristen Martindale of the School Library Journal writes of I Sang It Just For You: "New England singer and songwriter Mary Kaye's first CD is a strong contender for general listening collections. Her fluid voice is perfectly complemented by Jennifer Peart's vocals and Chris Stolpe's keyboard accompaniment. The songs, all original, vary in style, encompassing jazz, folk, rock, and even a bit of country. Her play list includes a variety of themes, including a song about colors, bubble baths, an ogre, a dancing ball for dolls, as well as familiar storybook characters like Baba Yaga, the Big Bad Wolf, and Humpty Dumpty among others, all with their own twists. Sleeping Beauty, for instance, learns that her beauty lies within her, and is encouraged to open her own eyes. Kaye does a fine job with this recording, and it's a worthy purchase for collections that circulate general children's music."
John Wood of Kidzmusic.com writes of I Sang It Just For You: "Gentle folk-flavored tunes with a pinch of love and appreciation for the child within us all."
The Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence Committee writes of I Sang It Just For You: "Each original tune holds wonderful wholesome lyrics set off by beautiful melodic voices. It gives new meaning to folk music. Children of all ages will enjoy this delightful CD."
Absolutely Mindy of XM Satellite Radio writes of Mary: "Keep making wonderful music!"
Kimberly Robasky of KidMix Radio (www.kidmixradio.net) writes of Mary's music: "Truly, phenomenal work."
Kenny Curtis of XM Kids says of Mary's singing, "...a truly AMAZING voice!!" (XM Satellite Radio)
Mary's song "Looking For Pennies" from I Sang It Just For You was chosen as one of "The Best of 2004" on KIOS-FM Kid's Weekend Radio show.
