Description
In mid 2003, Mule Train was formed to deliver a swift kick in the ass to the staid alt-country scene. Incorporating the energy and aggressiveness of punk and independent rock with the timeless melodies of their honky tonk heroes, Mule Train delivers a seamless blend of original music that avoids the formulaic sound of modern punk and the easy-listening complacency of alt-country. Paul M. Davis (vocals, guitar,) Kevin Rainsberry (drums,) and Esteban Perez (bass) draw from influences ranging from The Misfits to Jerry Irby to create a unique sound that is reminiscent of many but never cliche.
"This trio seems to have successfully created a sound they can truly call their own. The effect is a down-home rhythm tempered with well-versed lyrics...creating a need for more from them- more songs, more time onstage, and maybe one more beer...the more we hear from this band, the better we'll all be." - Good Times Santa Cruz
"Cool, fuzzy, twangy cowpunk...(with) two-step rockabilly beats and edgy vocals. Good time whiskey punk!" - Punk Planet
"For Mule Train, it's clear: if a group claims both Hank Williams Sr. and the Misfits as strong influences, it's a country-punk band, plain and simple. The Santa Cruz trio is just as much dirt road as spiky hair, as much cornfed as it is pissed off." - SF Weekly
"For anyone still having trouble understanding the connection between punk and Americana, Mule Train is the missing link between Hank Williams and the Clash. Have a listen and it'll all make sense." - Metro Santa Cruz
