Description
Outlaw Glam and the new music revolution.
In a world where pop is now called rock and 'The Strokes' are the denizens of New York music, where does a band like Nadsat Fashion belong?
Too aggressive for top 40, too melodic and pensive for Hardcore or Nu-metal, too acerbic for fans of Moby, Coldplay or the 'real world' , Nadsat Fashion seems to fly in the face of everything that is hip in the new millennium, and yet continues to thrive in the city that should despise it the most, New York.
The band takes it's cues from the music of the 60's, 70's and 80's, leaving the grunge movement out of the equation. Taking the mood of 60's psychedelic, the vocal style of 70's Glam (Bowie, T-Rex) mixed with a little Bauhaus, the aggressive beats and psychotic imagery of British Metal (Iron Maiden), the sarcastic humor of punk (New York Dolls, Sex Pistols), tempos and patterns from the 80's (Prince, U2) and finally the vocal range of Led Zeppelin and Gun's and Roses- Nadsat Fashion have fused elements that have, up until now, been diametrically opposed.
The live show has been a return to rock and roll theatrics, probably no small factor in their success in Manhattan. Elaborate Costumes, a dancing rabbit and onstage antics that have left people wondering if the band is about to self-destruct at any moment have kept audiences both rapt and returning.
It is most certainly not music for everyone, but if you are one of the people walking the earth who get the cosmic joke, it is music for you.
