Description
The Naked Chollas were formed in Tempe, Arizona by chief
songwriter/guitarist, Wil Musa and lead guitarist, Daren Sweet. Both desired to create a high energy, guitar oriented sound; with emphasis on powerful, yet clean melodies.
Adding New York's Robb
Weinstock on the bass and Tempe native drummer Jeff Kouhut, the band begin playing shows in the metro Phoenix area. After reading about a compilation CD featuring local artists, the band recorded the track, It Could Happen for the Red Mountain Studios Compilation,
"Coming Up Through: Red Mountain Alternative" in September of '96. After working with Producer Steve Parrish at Red Mountain the band went back in to the studio this time to do a full length CD.
Lets Go! The Chollas first CD was recorded in the Spring/Summer of 97. Its release in 1998 saw the band gain an instant hit with fans of rock and roll injected power pop all over the world It's jam-packed with hooks, guitar licks, and choruses that can be appreciated by Power Pop and Rock 'n Roll/Alternative fans alike. From the stellar
power pop of Something To Believe In, Touch and Yesterdays
Perfume to songs like Backseat and It Could Happen that take on a Southwestern alternative-pop feel. Make It Last and Summers Gone has an edgier pop approach.
Lets Go! struck a nerve locally As well as state record store availability, the CD is also being distributed internationally by Not Lame Recordings, touted as the world's largest power pop catalog. The track Come See Me has been picked up by Mastersource Publishing Company in Los Angeles for future soundtrack use and
has already appeared on the syndicated Warner Brothers' sitcom, "Boy Meets World". Through out 1998 and 1999 Come See Me was placed on almost 50 different sitcoms and promotional television shows including "Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Wonderful World of Disney and almost all ABC's daytime soaps. The song still appears in soundtracks played all over the world. Summers Gone, also from Lets Go! has been picked up for future soundtrack use.
In the summer of 1999 the Chollas played the biggest
"Power Pop" music festival in the world, the International Pop Overthrow in Hollywood, California. The band continued to support Lets Go! as sells of the CD reached almost 3000.
Lets Go! Has become an instant classic to power pop fans all over the world. It is now available for the first time from CD Baby.
