Description
Brazilian guitarist, Nelson Faria was born in Belo Horizonte, MG (1963), and moved when a child to Braslia, DF where he studied with Sidney Barros (Gamela).
In 1983, he moved Los Angeles, California to attend G.I.T (Guitar Institute of Technology), where he studied with Joe Diorio, Joe Pass, Ron Eschete, Howard Roberts, Scott Henderson and Frank Gambale. While in L.A., he also attended private lessons with the chord melody master Ted Greene.
Back in Brazil, Nelson Faria became one of the most popular artists on call lists for guitar workshops, clinics, seminars, record sessions and concerts.
He performed on over 50 records and made personal appearances in 12 different countries within South America, North America, Europe, and Middle East. He has performed and/or recorded with artists like Joo Bosco, Ivan Lins, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Lisa Ono, Milton Nascimento, Ed Lobo, Cssia Eller, Jerzy Milewski, Baby do Brasil, Zlia Duncan, Paulo Moura, Toninho Horta, Antonio Adolfo, Carlos Malta, Nivaldo Ornelas, Ana Caram, Tim Maia, Mauricio Einhorn, Leila Pinheiro and Wagner Tiso.
In 2001 he joined the BMI Jazz workshops under the auspices of Bolsa Virtuose-Ministrio da Cultura/Brazil studying with Manny Albam, Jim McNeely and Michael Abene. He also attended private lessons with the master arranger Manny Albam.
As an educator, Nelson taught for 12 years at the Universidade Estcio de S, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has taught clinics on Brazilian guitar at the IAJE /2001 (International Association of Jazz Educators), New York, NY; University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA; Guitar Institute of Technology, Los Angeles, CA; Gteborgs Universitet, Goteborg, Sweden; Manhattan School of Music, New York, NY; Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA; Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto-Brazil, ABEM, Associao Brasileira de Educao Musical, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Curso Internacional de vero de Braslia, Brazil, Oficina de MPB de Curitiba, Brazil.
